What we do
At The Dog Next Door Training, our goal is to help you develop a balanced, well-mannered dog, while ensuring that you’re a happy and satisfied owner. We all come into dog ownership for one reason or another: to keep us active and healthy, stave off loneliness, give social and emotional support, reduce stress and anxiety, and genuinely make us happy. Even with the best of intentions, we can unintentionally become the cause of many of the behavioral issues in our furry friends, making life with them less than ideal and sometimes downright dangerous. We will start you out on a good path with your young pup or aid in correcting problem behaviors, teaching you new ways of working and living with your dog that will not only restore the peace in the home, but may open up a relationship with your dog you may have not known was possible. If you’re ready to transform your life, we’re here to help!
About Me
Hi! I’m suzanne
I’m a wife, mother, nona, amateur runner, and a huge fan of romcoms, chocolate, and of course, dogs! Throughout my life, I've worn many different hats, including stay-at-home mom, professional volunteer, CASA, crafter, and guide dog puppy raiser. I grew up in California's Central Valley, raised my children in Oregon, and recently settled in San Diego, California to be closer to my expanding family.
My journey into dog training started in Sherwood, Oregon, where I volunteered and apprenticed with Marvin Pierce Dog Teacher. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with hundreds of dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds, including those with serious behavioral issues. I've also had the opportunity to learn from other amazing trainers, including Cheri Wulff Lucas (Cesar Millan’s longtime right-hand woman), founder of the Second Chance at Love Humane Society, dog behaviorist and trainer, Sean O'Shea, owner of The Good Dog Training & Rehabilitation in Slidell, LA, and Samantha Johnson, owner of PackLife LA in Los Angeles, CA, and head trainer for Marley's Mutts Pawsitive Change prison program.
My approach to dog training is rooted in honesty and compassion. I work with owners to incorporate training into their daily routine, resulting in a more enjoyable life for both the owner and their furry friend. I firmly believe that training provides dogs with greater freedom and more opportunities for fun.
